• Caitlin is now based in Hurst, Texas but does travel all over for sessions. Caitlin has been known as the “Dallas Equine Photographer” because she did primarily cover east of Dallas as that was her home base. Recently in end of 2020 she moved to northeast Fort Worth area.

  • Yes! Caitlin does charge for travel if over 20 mile round trip from 76053 zip code. The charge is $0.62 / mile after 20 miles.

  • Travel fee and hotel fee will be applied for Caitlin to come. Caitlin can split the cost of travel fees if other people are in the area.

  • Yes! It all depends on what package you picked out. Caitlin does offer product upgrades too!

  • We recommend booking at least 4 to 5 months in advance. Depending on certain sessions for Professional Hair and Make-up Artist, they are booked way in advance and we want to make sure you have your session set up for that. We also booked with Horse Shows, so we want to make sure we can fit you in our schedule ASAP.

  • We do offer payment plans before and after the shoot! We do require payment to be fully paid for the week before the session. Please contact Catlin for payment set up if you are needing that option.

General F.A.Q.’s

Getting Started

  • Please take a look at what we offer and figure out about what you are wanting. Please contact me either by filling our the inquiry form. I would love to answer any questions you may have and get to know you better for the perfect session.

  • All my sessions can be upgraded the day of our session. It is ok to pick a smaller package but can upgrade to more products and time to be photographed. For barn minis, it will be harder because everyone will be on a time schedule, so we would have to stay strict to time. Caitlin does offer product upgrades for those vs time upgrades. Don’t be afraid to ask and talk about what your visions are for Caitlin to understand and complete your dreams.

  • Now that you have your session picked out, we will need to select a few dates in case of weather decides to ruin your special day. You will be invoiced for the non-refundable retainer and a contract sent out. Once the retainer is paid for and contract signed, your session date will be marked into my calendar

  • Print credit is where you can select your images and put them on a canvas, acrylic, wood, frame prints, thin wrap, or just get more digitals! It is whatever you want to buy within that limit. Don’t worry if you go over the amount, it will be credited in your final total!

  • Yes of course depending on your session you picked out. If it’s black background, they will be charged for 2 different horses. Caitlin can photoshop them together for a finished product. We don’t want to force them too like each other for the shoot if they are not friends already.

  • Yes! We want you to bring your other 4 legged fur baby in your photos with you. Keep in mind with how many animals or even humans are with you for the shoot. It is a lot of editing when it comes to face replacements if they refuse to focus on me or my assistants.

  • For the foal sessions, you are only charged for 1 horse for mare and foal pictures. If both are for sale, you will be charged for each horse.

  • We want you to feel like yourself but elevate it to a whole new you! Think about the time of the session you are getting your photos done. If it’s Fall/Winter season, think of darker tones, muted, long sleeve, etc. For Spring/Summer, you can wear brighter tones, but keep them muted. Nothing hot pink or green. It will reflect onto the horse and your skin tone.

You don’t necessarily have to wear polos and breeches or button downs and jeans. Put on something you would go out for an evening or for a business casual look. It may not be you 100%, but this is a once in a while thing to do, so plan to dress up!

  • We highly recommend to wash your horse the day of. Super clean coat and shine makes him look 100% better than being dusty and muddy. Don’t think photoshop can fix all the flaws you didn’t prepare your horse for. You don’t have to band or braid your horse, but it does make him look fashionable as your styling too. Clean all tack (and your boots if you wear those in your shoot) and polish any chrome that shows. Caitlin does carry some leather halters if you don’t have one for your horse. She even uses what we use in the photography world as a Naked Halter that helps photoshop off easier in photos if you wanting them wearing nothing. It is better to be over prepared vs under prepared.

Any clipping as in bridle path, whiskers, back of legs or under the jaw recommend to do at least 4 days before the shoot. If you do any body clipping, best time to get photos done is at least 2-3 weeks after a fresh clip. Texas is the worst on sun bleaching coats, so ultimately best time is when they shed their winter coats in April/early May or when they start to grow their winter coats is in early October.

If you plan to wear a dress on your horse, we highly recommend practicing with your horse a few times before the day of a session. Don’t assume they will be ok because they wear winter blankets. Different fabrics from clothes will cling differently than a blanket does. It could make a scary noise or give them an electric shock if too much static. We aren’t responsible for your injuries during the shoot, so be smart to help your horse understand that this isn’t a normal thing.

When doing some of these sessions, some shots will be showing the hooves. You can put a polish on or hoof dressing if that is your preference. Please clean all around the hoof and if he is super long or chipping, try too plan for the farrier to get him or her done before hand.

  • Trust me, Caitlin will find the best places to get photos. Ultimately a nice drive way, shade trees, nice groom pastures, nothing super distracting in the backgrounds. If you still feel like your place isn’t the best and willing to haul to some locations, I have spots we can go to. Location fee will be added to the bill to pay for the facilities time. Up to date on Coggins and Vaccines are required for the horses on these locations.

  • Texas can have some crazy scheduling with its weather. We usually don’t postpone the shoot date until the day before, if not the day of depending on the time of the shoot. For darker horses such as Dark Bays, Grullas, and Blacks are best when it’s cloudy outside. They do not get washed out as if it was sunny. Typically the lighter colored horses like Palominos, Buckskins, Chestnuts all look amazing with the sun glistening on their coats. If the sun is or isn’t out, we are still doing the session.

Caitlin will photograph all time of the year, even if it’s 100+ degrees outside. Note that Texas can get hot all of a sudden so book early during the Spring and Fall times. If you do a summer session, Caitlin tends to photograph the horse first part of the session during golden hour and then bring in you to pose with your horse when the sun is starting to set or the other way around for early morning sessions.

Caitlin will make the call of reschooling or not. Make sure you can plan a rain date when booking your schedule in case of this happening. If you do plan to cancel because of other reasons, there will be a rescheduling fee of $100 for each time. Dates are limited, so please don’t waste her time if you can’t handle the situations.

  • There will be a cancelation fee of $100 per time you cancel your date. If your plans have changed and your session is already paid for, you will only receive half a refund. I advise to book later again in the year. If you decide to switch from, as an example, Equestrian shoot to Family shoot, that is possible. Contact Caitlin to work out details and what is the next step to take.

Preparing for your Session

Session Day

  • We highly recommend to lunge your horse before the session. Horses are creatures of habit and go by routines. This is not normal to them and they won’t understand what we are doing. If your horse is too much to handle, we will advise you to take a break and lunge for a few minutes. We worry about your safety, my assistants safety, and most of all your horses safety. You can give your horse a calming agent if you believe he needs it, but they can look a little dead in the photos.

  • Please gie yourself plenty of time to get your horse ready. So if he or she needs a bath, consider the time to do that and to dry. If the session starts at 5, we are starting at 5 whether you are ready or not. Lighting is a crucial thing for our business, so if you are not ready, your photos can show the affects of light being too bright or too dark.

Barn Minis will start on the designated time. If you are late, you are only photographed up until the next time slot.

  • It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

  • Yes, you can always bring more with you and I can help you select what to wear. Feel free also to text me pictures of your ideas so we can go from outfit changes faster and not waste a lot of good light!

  • Yes! We always recommend you to bring someone to help handle your horse for you while you are needing to change clothes or reposition yourself. They can help fix your hair or fix your necklace. When it comes to wearing long dresses, we highly suggest you bring someone with you to help carry the dress or stage it around you while my assistants set the horse up.

  • This will need to be discussed way a head of the session day. There is only so much time during certain sessions and coordination that it will kill a lot of time. If you are having family photos done or engagements, please pick those for your sessions. Equestrian sessions are meant more for you and your horse. We can slip in your spouse or child in your photo session for a few shots, but advise you tell us ahead of time.

  • Caitlin will typically get to the shoot at least 30 minutes before the session starts. She will scout the perfect locations with her assistants and set up areas where to stage for the shoot. Then we will find you and your horse and talk about how we work during a session with examples of how to pose you.

  • After the session, Caitlin will lightly color correct the perfect images for you to view after it is uploaded to a private gallery for you to view all the proofs. Once a selection of your favorites is made, she will then go back and edit the photos. If you see something in particular that you want fixed, please list that next to the image number on your list.

  • During busy season, it can take Caitlin up to 4-6 weeks to finish editing your session. The faster you make your selection, the faster she can get your images to you. Keep in mind when it comes to holiday season, it is a mad rush to get sessions finished up before the holidays and prints sent before Christmas.

  • Caitlin will have different options and pricing for what she offers. If you want a particular size that isn’t listed, please contact her and see what she can come up with and pricing. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and use different sizes than the traditional 8” x 10” as an example.

  • Caitlin will either email your digitals to you or send you a link to a download gallery for you to download directly off of. Prints will take a few weeks to be sent off to a lab and delivered to Caitlin’s residence. She will do a look over to make sure the products are of quality for you. Once the products pass the test, she will coordinate with you on delivering them to you.

  • The answer is no. The images are of smaller quality and will turn out badly. We have a professional quality lab make our prints for you to have the best of the best. Wal-Mart or CVS isn’t going to do your session justice. If you would like to print them, there is an upgrade fee for the higher resolution. Message Caitlin about it today.
